What is Google Tag Manager?
Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a free utility from Google that lets you quickly and easily update tracking codes and snippets, also called tags, on the website or in the app.
From a single view, you can monitor, modify and extend all set codes.
Tags work with triggers. Only if certain conditions are met will the tag be “fired. This could be based on a page visited, a form submitted or a click on a button.
This information can be forwarded to Google Analytics or Google Ads, for example, so you can see what is happening on your website or with your Google Ads campaigns.
Without tags or triggers, Google Tag Manager is an empty shell. Only when you fill it with tags, triggers and variables does it become an extremely useful and serious tool.
Why use Tag Manager?
Not everyone uses Google Tag Manager. It is often not entirely clear what the benefits are and what you can (or cannot) do with it
The main reasons why you can use Tag Manager:
– Instead of having to add all kinds of tags to your website, such as Google Analytics, the Facebook and the LinkedIn pixel, you only need to add 1 tag: namely, Google Tag Manager. This will keep the speed of your website optimal or even yield a profit.
– You can track everything you want which allows you to see the behavior of website visitors very precisely.
– When you want to replace or add code, you can solve that, mostly, with Google Tag Manager without thus needing a developer. You can then shift gears much faster.
