What is local SEO?
Local findability, also known as Local SEO, is optimizing the local findability of a website or physical business location. As an example, someone is in Amsterdam and searches for the best Greek restaurants with Google.
Google then uses the location data to show the most relevant results possible. In practice, it means that Google’s search results show Greek restaurants in the searcher’s immediate vicinity.
How do you improve local findability?
You can improve your local findability in several ways.
For Google, for example, it means optimizing your listing on Google Maps – with Google My Business. In practice, it means making your profile complete with texts, images and other elements. Microsoft offers the same capabilities, as does Apple (for Apple Maps)
In addition, you can optimize your website to be found (better) for local searches, for in regular search results. An example is creating and setting up custom urls for physical locations out there.
Finally, with local link building, especially websites that are locally focused, you can give more attention to the websites and/or location urls.
