How Can You Use ChatGPT for SEA?
ChatGPT is described as one of the most promising technologies in the world of AI. The incredibly intelligent software seems capable of almost anything. From writing texts to creating personalized meal plans; nothing is too outlandish. Through Natural Language Processing (NLP), ChatGPT can understand and process human language. This allows it to use a person’s intentions and needs to produce hyper-personalized output.
What are the opportunities that ChatGPT (and artificial intelligence in general) offers for SEA? We have compiled a list of applications that allow us to work even more efficiently with the help of ChatGPT.
Keyword Research
An extensive keyword research is an important first step when setting up a Google Ads campaign. However, determining and developing relevant keywords can be a time-consuming process. ChatGPT can make keyword research much easier.
Based on main and sub-topics, we determine the general campaign structure and ad group layout. Using ‘cheap travel’ as an example, we use the following prompt in ChatGPT: ‘Generate a list of keywords related to: *cheap travel*. The output shows the possible topics for campaigns that can be used.
A useful prompt for ChatGPT that you could use once you have created a general list of keywords is: ‘Find similar keywords to these…’. Enter this prompt into ChatGPT and add your list of keywords. ChatGPT will provide an extensive list of relevant keywords.

Next, you can ask ChatGPT to sort these keywords with the prompt: ‘Create a table of all the keywords in this list and sort them from most to least relevant for a company that…’. Add a brief but clear description of the company here. This provides valuable information on how you can use the keywords when creating your SEA campaign.
An important addition: it doesn’t matter which language you speak to ChatGPT in. The software is smart enough to understand and translate any language flawlessly.
Target Audience Research
ChatGPT can also lend a helping hand in the field of target audience research. Through NLP, ChatGPT can collect and analyze data from various sources. Although ChatGPT is not yet connected live to websites, the tool can collect data from certain sources such as online surveys and customer service conversations.
Based on this, ChatGPT can develop detailed personas that align with the needs and desires of the target audience. You can also simply get to know your target audience better using smart prompts.
A good example is this prompt for a travel organization: ‘What features or characteristics of a hotel would a budget-conscious traveler look for? Things like ‘cheap price’ and ‘clean rooms’.
Using this information, you can of course continue asking: ‘Can you suggest related keywords for each of these features and place them in a table?’

Inspiration for Text Ads
Once you start writing ad copy for your SEA campaigns, ChatGPT can also lend a helping hand. A good prompt to use for writing texts is: ‘Give tips on language use and sentence structure that suits a target audience that…’.

Optimizing text ads is one of the most important aspects of SEA, as it sets you apart from the competition. By testing different ad variants, you can determine which ones work best.
ChatGPT can certainly help with this. A simple prompt you can use is: ‘Optimize this ad for…’. Here you add the ad text and information about the target audience. You can make this prompt as specific and extensive as you want.
Examples of information you can give to ChatGPT are:
- Description of the product or service (clear description + benefits for the customer).
- Target audience (age, gender, location, interests, demographic data, behavior…)
- Unique Selling Proposition (USP): what makes the product or service unique?
- Call-to-Action (CTA): what action should the customer take after seeing your ad?
- Information about competitors
- Ad format (text ads, display ads, video ads)
If you have multiple versions of an ad, you could input both into ChatGPT to then perform an A/B test. ChatGPT will give its opinion on which version best suits your target audience. The possibilities for optimization are truly endless. In practice, you can of course perform the same A/B test: it’s interesting to see whether ChatGPT was right or not.
Conclusion
Finally, an important quote to end this article with: ‘The prompt determines the output’. In other words, the clearer and more specific the input you give AI, the better the answer will be.
Be as complete as possible and use headings and bullet points if necessary. This way, you can make optimal use of what this new technology has to offer.
To the question of whether AI will eventually completely replace humans, we answer no; human input will always be necessary. As long as we work together with the various AI technologies in the right way, they will be a great addition and make the work of an SEA marketer even more effective.
