How can online marketers use ChatGPT for SEO?

The possibilities in AI seem endless at the moment. Especially now that AI has been made fully accessible to everyone using ChatGPT. Every SEO marketer can benefit from it. But how?

Content creation

Once you have a clear overview of your most important keywords, ChatGPT can help you find appropriate topics, create content outlines and come up with optimized titles and headlines.

Let’s start getting inspiration for new topics. Put the list of your most important keywords into ChatGPT and ask the bot to sort them into a table based on search volume. Then type this prompt: ‘Based on this table, provide five relevant blog topics’. In this example, we are using a website that targets an audience that wants budget-friendly travel.

To create an outline for your blog use this prompt: ‘Create an article outline for: *blog topic* with keyword-rich titles and headlines. Process only H1, H2 and H3 tags in the outline.’

As you can see, ChatGPT gives you a ready-made outline so you can start writing your article. Wondering what meta title/description ChatGPT would recommend for the article? Then use this prompt: ‘Now write a meta title and description for the article. The title may be up to 60 characters long and the description up to 160 characters.’

If you want to repost the article to your social media channels, ChatGPT can also be a good source of inspiration: ‘Provide ideas for social media expressions that would go well with this article.’

Competitive Analysis

Of course, it is very important to keep a close eye on your competitors and keep up completely. This can be a time-consuming process, but fortunately there is a good, comprehensive ChatGPT prompt for this as well to make the process a little easier.

The following prompt is very extensive and therefore will produce a fairly long response from the chatbot. Please keep in mind that ChatGPT’s server is often busy/overloaded and these types of extended requests may take a bit longer or perhaps give an error at the moment. Not everything in ChatGPT’s report will be as useful/relevant, but it is often a good start for your own more comprehensive analysis.

Prompt:

‘I want you to act like an analyst/auditor. I want you to conduct an analysis of *brand* with the following competitors: *competitors*. I want you to assess the differences and similarities between *brand* and *competitors*. I want you to focus on pricing, market positioning and branding. Research the relevant market and analyze each brand to identify key differences and similarities. Present all information in a detailed report with graphs, charts and tables. Based on all the information, let me know how *brand* can improve and take actionable steps to make *brand* better than *competitors*.’

Don’t feel like/time to try many different prompts and just want ChatGPT to do a quick, global SEO analysis? Then try this prompt:

‘I want you to act like the best SEO consultant of all time. I need a list of keywords and a corresponding targeting strategy to optimize *website*. Then choose the appropriate keywords to target. Take into account the competition and search volume for each keyword. I want to rank first in search engines organically and need this list and strategy to achieve that. I want you to build a strategy that best incorporates the chosen keywords to maximize the potential for *website* to rank higher in search results. Incorporate keyword difficulty into this as well and rank them based on those that are easiest. Show the results in a tabular format.’

What are the disadvantages of ChatGPT for SEO?

So ChatGPT can be very useful in many different ways when it comes to SEO. But there are, of course, a few drawbacks to the tool that are good to keep in mind if you plan to use ChatGPT.

For starters; ChatGPT uses and learns only from the information available on the Internet. This causes answers to be inconsistent and biased. Therefore, it is very important to read all of ChatGPT’s output carefully and check/adjust it yourself. Never copy texts indiscriminately.

The second drawback of ChatGPT is the chatbot’s inability to understand/transmit emotions. AI currently cannot empathize with the emotions of a target audience and thus will not be able to write/creat with empathy. This hampered his ability to create content that evoked strong emotional responses.

And finally, you have to consider limited access to the chatbot. The trial version of ChatGPT is currently available to all for free, but there is a good chance that this will not remain so for long. The goal of OpenAI right now is to train the bot to be as efficient as possible. Perhaps soon the disadvantages we just mentioned will all fall away and ChatGPT will fully function as a (bizarrely intelligent) peer!
